steps 1-4 of Invisalign treatmentDrs. Najem & Lehky Orthodontics is your Invisalign specialist in Northeast and Eastern Ohio. We have the experience and knowledge necessary to provide the orthodontic care you deserve, all while achieving the desired result of a beautiful, straight smile.

Invisalign is great because it's almost undetectable to the eye, allowing you to straighten your teeth without all the wires and brackets of traditional braces. Patients in and around our Fairlawn and Cortland offices are completely satisfied with our customer service, personalized attention and the results they achieve with Invisalign.

How Invisalign Works

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign uses 3-D computer-generated molds of your mouth to create a series of precisely calibrated aligners. You wear and change these aligners in orthodontist-determined intervals. Each interval will move and shift your teeth into the desired, straight positions gradually. No metal. No brackets.

Once Drs. Najem and Lehky determine Invisalign is a great orthodontic solution to straighten your teeth, this is what you can expect.

  • Computer-generated, 3-D "imprints" will be taken of your teeth.
  • Your imprints will be used to manufacture a series of precisely calibrated aligners. There will be anywhere from 12 to 48 aligners used during your orthodontic treatment, depending on the individual case.
  • Each aligner is designed to fit your mouth exactly and gradually shift your teeth into the desired final position.
  • You will wear each aligner for about two weeks, removing it only to eat, brush and floss your teeth.
  • You will have periodic visits with your orthodontist, every four to six weeks, to monitor progress during treatment.
  • As the weeks pass, you'll notice your teeth straighten and you'll be smiling like you never have before!

The Benefits of Invisalign

  • These aligners are virtually invisible, allowing you to straighten your teeth discreetly.
  • You can eat and drink what you want. Because you can remove them at will, there are no restrictions in terms of not eating sticky or hard foods.
  • There are no changes in your oral hygiene routine. Brush, floss, rinse as you normally would, removing your aligners beforehand. You can brush your aligners and rinse them with room temperature water, too, to keep them fresh.
  • They are more comfortable than traditional braces. No wires or brackets stuck to your teeth causing severe irritation or pain.
  • Because of computer technology, you will be able to view your intended results beforehand with the imaging models. You have that end goal in sight the entire time you are wearing your aligners.

Do you have Invisalign clear aligners for your orthodontics? Or, are you considering getting Invisalign or Invisalign Teen to straighten your smile? Either way, we have some of the most commonly asked questions and Drs. Najem & Lehky's recommended answers below.

Q. How often must I wear my aligners?
A. We recommend wearing your Invisalign aligners for up to 22 hours daily. You can remove them for eating, drinking and your regular oral hygiene.

Q. Is there anything I can't eat while I'm using Invisalign treatment?
A. No! You can eat whatever you want. Just make sure you remove your aligners before eating your meal. But, before you put your aligners back on, remember to brush your teeth and the aligners first.

Q. Will wearing Invisalign affect my speech?
A. For some people, there is an adjustment period. Practice makes perfect, though. Just wear your aligners and talk. You'll get used to it very quickly!

Q. Is there any discomfort or pain caused by Invisalign treatment?
A. Yes, there will be some pressure and minor discomfort for the first few days with each new aligner in the sequence. This is a sign that your teeth are moving into their final place correctly, as intended.

Q. Can I chew gum with my aligners in?
A. We recommend you remove your aligners to chew gum. Gum sticks to them very easily.

Q. Can I smoke cigarettes wearing my Invisalign?
A. We discourage smoking with your aligners in. Just like your teeth, smoking can discolor them very easily.

Q. How do I clean my aligners?
A. You just have to brush them with toothpaste and rinse them, just like your teeth. This will keep them clean and fresh. DON'T boil them or use hot water to clean them, as it can warp the material and affect your treatment.

Q. How often do I visit my orthodontist while I'm wearing my aligners?
A. You will have visits every five to six weeks, depending on your orthodontist's recommendation. These visits ensure your Invisalign treatment is progressing as planned.

Q. What happens when my treatment is complete? Do I wear a retainer?
A. Yes, all orthodontics patients are instructed to wear a retainer after treatment at night while you sleep, or during the day, depending on your orthodontist's recommendation, until your orthodontist instructs otherwise. This ensures your newly-straightened teeth; bite and alignment are maintained after treatment.

Q. How long does Invisalign treatment take?
A. Treatment time varies depending on the severity of the misaligned teeth. Every patient is different. But treatment time is usually shorter than traditional braces, lasting between six and 18 months.

Q. Can children and adolescents use Invisalign, too?
A. Yes! If a child or adolescent's adult teeth, including second molars, are completely grown in, Invisalign is an option for treatment.
