How Long Will the Invisalign Treatment Take?

Invisalign will generally offer a faster treatment time than braces, though the treatment time will vary depending on the patient and the severity of the misaligned teeth. Most cases should take somewhere from six to 18 months.

Do I Have to Wear Invisalign All Day?

You won’t necessarily have to wear them for the entire day, but they’re meant to be worn for about 22 hours a day so the treatment can work as it was designed. Because you won’t have to wear them for the entire day, you can remove Invisalign for eating, brushing, or other special occasions.

How Often Will I Need to Visit Your Office During the Process?

When the process begins, we’ll ask you to come in about once every four to six weeks. These visits are to make sure that your Invisalign treatment is progressing just the way it was intended. After you have worn them for a while, we may decide that we can lessen the frequency of the visits.

What Foods Do I Have to Avoid While Undergoing Treatment?

None. Because Invisalign is removable, you can maintain the same diet you had before undergoing orthodontic treatment. Just remember that it’s important to brush your teeth afterwards to make sure that none of the leftover food particles get trapped against your teeth when you put the aligners back in.

Can I Chew Gum While Wearing the Aligners?

No, gum can stick to the aligners and create a mess, so it’s best to take your aligners out first if you want to chew a piece of gum.

Can I Smoke?

Smoking can discolor and stain your aligners so we don’t recommend doing so while undergoing the Invisalign treatment.

How Do I Clean My Aligners?

You’ll want to use a soft bristled toothbrush and a dab of toothpaste to brush them. Make sure to rinse them off when you’re done. When rinsing the aligners off, don’t use hot water – hot water can warp the plastic and make them unwearable.

Will My Speech Be Affected by Invisalign?

There will be a short adjustment period in getting used to the aligners. Your speech may not be as clear when you start wearing the aligners, but your speech will quickly return to normal shortly.

Will I Need a Retainer After the Treatment Is Completed?

Yes. Like with all forms of orthodontic treatment, a retainer will be needed in order to make sure that your teeth don’t fall back into misalignment. This retention phase will ensure that your teeth stay just as straight as they were when the Invisalign treatment was completed.
