National Orthodontic Health Month

Achieving a beautiful smile is far from the only reason to pursue orthodontic treatment. At Drs. Najem & Lehky Orthodontics, we want our patients to know that completing treatment, whether it’s with braces or Invisalign, can play a positive role in your overall health too. With National Orthodontic Health Month starting this October ,our Akron orthodontists wanted to provide a rundown on the importance of pursuing treatment, and the benefits it provides.

Benefits of Braces, and Other Orthodontic Treatment

We understand orthodontic treatment is a huge time and financial investment, but it’s a decision that will change your life forever. Whether you have a minor malocclusion, or need longer term treatment, we’ve seen the countless happy faces leave our offices on their last day of treatment.

There are many advantages of treatment including:

  • Digestion: With a healthy, aligned, smile, you can chew your food more efficiently. This makes it easier for your body to digest your food and extract all the nutrients.
  • Speech: An ideal jaw alignment and bite helps individuals articulate and speak clearly.
  • Oral Health: With an ideal bite you eliminate areas that can collect waste, bacteria, and plaque that can build up in the mouth and get trapped. Teeth that are properly aligned are also much easier to brush, floss, and maintain. As a result, it will also make your oral hygiene routine easier and help ensure good oral health.
  • Stability: Once you get braces, or any orthodontic treatment, and your teeth are properly aligned, you won’t have to worry about unwanted changes in your teeth. This is because once you obtain an ideal bite, your teeth will properly fit and support each other, preventing any further movement.
  • Breathing: If you struggle with snoring or other breathing issues, orthodontic treatment can sometimes help.

At  Drs. Najem & Lehky Orthodontics, we understand that every patient is different, which is why we work hard to personalize each treatment to our patients needs.

It’s no surprise that the season of tricks and treats also designates the start of National Orthodontic Health Month. Yet those with braces, or any other orthodontic treatment, can still indulge in a sugary sweet. Our Akron orthodontists simply advise our patients to avoid hard or sticky candies that can damage your braces. As for all the other tasty treats, just remember to brush and floss your teeth after you indulge!
